Las Médulas Foundation

One of the main tasks of the team at the Las Médulas Foundation is to design projects aimed converting this space into a major source of economic resources for the local population.

What we do

The Las Médulas Foundation has a multidisciplinary team with extensive training and experience in the historical, archaeological, scientific, administrative and tourist aspects of Las Médulas. Its objective is to achieve the sustainable management of the Cultural and Natural Space of Las Medulas.

Both the social participation programmes and the research and conservation work carried out by the team at the Las Médulas Foundation incorporate transparency into their management, in addition to accessibility.

Another of the Las Médulas Foundation’s lines of action focuses on continuous improvement in scientific research and knowledge of the heritage assets. In this sense, its heritage interpretation is promoted and, at the same time, international dissemination is boosted.

Ongoing research is focusing on the various aspects of heritage, on the natural resources and their use throughout history, as well as on the Roman mining structures that make up the Cultural Space.

The areas of study include the analysis and monitoring of the evolution of the state of conservation of the archaeological record, taking into account changes in human society and its different socio-economic contexts.

The knowledge and use of new protection techniques to keep the heritage of Las Médulas in good condition contributes to its conservation and guarantees that future generations will be able to enjoy it.
