Viewpoints
of Las Médulas

Your visit to Las Médulas has to start somewhere, and what better place to do it than from one of its viewpoints. Reaching these viewpoints will give you a vantage point from which to admire the beauty of the Cultural and Natural Space you are about to visit.

Our viewpoints are privileged observation points, basking in the generosity with which nature envelops Las Médulas and which, by providing an infinite number of shades of green, highlights the pinnacles or peaks and orange towers to the greatest delight.

The viewpoints of ReirigoLas Pedrices and Chao de Maseiros are the epicentre of the best panoramic views. The perfect place to pause the journey while waiting for the most outstanding light of the day. Those that light up the sedimentary materials of Las Médulas with reddish tones, turning them into a natural spectacle of light and colour.

Visit Las Médulas

This is the moment when the cultural and natural paradise of Las Médulas becomes the best gift for the traveller, when it unfolds more closely and exclusively for those who stop in search of its beauty.

Reirigo

Some say that the Reirigo viewpoint is the best of all the viewpoints in Las Médulas.

Tips from other travellers

This viewpoint is difficult to access and is reached by a trail that is not recommended for children, nor for people who are not used to medium-high difficulty mountain routes.

It is enough to know that it is located at an altitude of 979 metres to be sure that the views are guaranteed. These may be the most spectacular views, but it is best left to the choice of the observer willing to walk the  Reirigo trail.

In the village of Las Médulas, from the Archaeological Learning Centre the trail of Reirigo or Fuente la Perra, as it is also known, leads to the same viewpoint and its stupendous panoramic views. They reward the effort of climbing the slope, especially in the first section, of the trail that heads towards the Reirigo peak until it reaches the Alto de Reirigo. This is where the spectacular scenery of Las Médulas unfolds from the viewpoint. A little further on, an exciting trail next to the exploitation front approaches the old mining galleries exploited in this area of Las Médulas.

Las Pedrices

The viewpoint of Las Pedrices is a must to visit in autumn or spring.

Tips from other travellers

The Las Pedrices viewpoint can also be reached via the Perimeter trail.

In the vicinity of the Visitor Reception Centre located in the village of Las Médulas, the Las Valiñas trail begins, which is circular and branches off to lead to the Las Pedrices viewpoint. This is a must when visiting in autumn or spring. This way you can enjoy the chromatic transformation of the leaves of the enormous centenary chestnut trees that accompany the trail along its first stretch. At the end of the trail is the signpost to the viewpoint of Las Pedrices with its privileged views of the landscape of Las Médulas and the village, as well as the panoramic view of Lake Carucedo in the distance.

Chao de
Maseiros

This is a vantage point from which the grandeur of Las Médulas and the traces of gold mining can be seen in unison.

Tips from other travellers

It is a low-difficulty itinerary that combines natural and scenic attractions in a comfortable route that is perfect for families.

The Chao de Maseiros viewpoint is located one kilometre from the village of Las Médulas. To get there, follow a trail that starts next to the church and, passing along the trail to Lake Somido, the place where the gold was washed, leads to the viewpoint.

The views are immense, taking in Lake Carucedo and the village of the same name, as well as the Campañana reservoir.

From this viewpoint you can see the grandeur of the tailings dumped in the last phase of the mine’s work: the Chao de Maseiros deposit.
